He was predeceased by: his parents, Philip Byers and Margaret Byers; his wife Audrey; his son Bruce; his sister Joyce Byers Reed; and his brothers-in-law, Thomas C. Reed and Howard Engquist.

He is survived by: his daughter Carol Byers Schroeder (Randy) of Morgan, MN; his daughter-in-law Linda Byers Bonnell (Steve) of Milford, IA; his close friend LaVonne Donahue of Windom; his grandchildren, Brent Byers (Beth) of Mankato, MN, Michelle Byers (A. J. Madison), Dan Schroeder (Kristen) of St. Cloud, MN and Kyle Schroeder of St. Cloud, MN; his great grandchildren, Kaylin, Evelynn, Josie Madison, Ruby and Fletcher Byers of Mankato, MN; and his sister-in-law Joan Engquist of Fairmont, MN. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
